| 2006 Season
Well the start of a new season is right around the corner and the crew of the Mary Lou can not wait! We will be back in the water for the second week of April and we will start our early season trips right away. Call us up early to book a trip for the spring striper season which should be another great one. The regulations have changed back to the old ways and now we can again keep two 28' inch fish. We look forward to hearing from you and are excited for another great season aboard the Mary Lou Crew.
Thanks Captain Darren Stripers
Had the Mary Lou Crew out for its first trip of the year with Kip and Crew. Started out on the troll and had fish on right away. We dropped several large fish and landed a few others. We also were fishing threw some big bluefish. Great to be back out there! Stripers
Had the Mary Lou Crew back out for another great day of Striper fishing. We started out trolling up in the reach and never had to leave. Pulled spoons all day and had our limit with Bass between 32-38 inches then went into release mode. We also had our fill of blue fish. Beautiful day on the water. Stripers
Had the boat out for another solid day of striper fishing. With the Bill Bailey charter from West Orange, we caught fish both on the troll and on fresh bunker. We started up in the reach on trolled and chunked on both the red and green side. Today the bite seemed to be on the red side. All nice fish that were spawned out and none were under 32 inches. Back out again tomorrow for another shot at them. Stripers
Today we were Back out with the Jennifer Milan charter from Madison NJ, with a group of five. We trolled for five hours in the reach and limited out plus 5 bonus fish and released another five legal fish. With the largest fish 33 pounds! and one other at 30 pounds. With only a hand full of bluefish. We left at 12:30 and left the fish biting. Stripers
Had the Mary Lou Crew out for another slamming day of stripe bass fishing. We had 5 guys from Eastern Concrete onboard and we trolled all day and had all the Bass they wanted. We started out in the bay and ended in the ocean. The fish ranged from 34 inches to 48inches with the largest fish going 35 pounds. We also had some blue fish but they were not bad. Beautiful day on the water. Stripers
Capt. Darren and first mate Phil Mancini did it again today on the Bass. With the Michael Gates party from Rockaway, NJ they limited out on Bass by 11am. They started out trolling south of Sandy Hook, but had only blue fish. Made one short move and dropped the hook in 18 feet of water and started clamming. The group had all the Bass they could handle and actually asked if they could switch over to catching blue fish! By days end the charter had caught 40 bass keeping only there limit and bonus fish. All others were released unharmed since they were caught on circle hooks. They also caught there fill of blue fish. The bass ranged in size from 24 inches up to 38 inches. stripers
Capt. Darren and mate Phil Mancini had the Dave Foss and friends from Lake Hopatcong, NJ aboard for some striper action. Made one drop of the hook on one of their favorite spots and had the stripers on instantly. Fished for 4 hours and had 42 stripers hooked and landed, keeping only their limit. The largest fish was 38 inches. Great morning of fishing with only a few small blue fish. Stripers
Had the boat out for another Striper trip with four guys on board. Well it was bound to happen and todays trip was the day. We could not get the stripers to bite. I fished every spot I know of, but could get the fish going. Found great marks off the beach and a ton of blue fish but no stripers. Oh well it happens to the best. Till next time!!! Stripers
Had the Mary Lou Crew out with the Pete Sheridan charter from Lawrencville, NJ. We trolled the rocks and had our limit of Bass by 11am. All the fish we between 32-38 inches and only had a hand full of blue fish. We moved up North to try some clamming and had all small Bass. It turned out to be beautiful on the water and all the storms stayed up North. Fluke
Had the Mary Lou Crew out for the JCSA fluke tournament and fished along the beach in less then good conditions. We had all the fluke we could handle the only problem was that they were all to small. We made a move across the bay in real snotty conditions and got out of the wind. We made several drifts but again only had shorts. The wind and current made things very difficult. Till next time! Striper/Black Drum!!!
Captain Darren reports he was out on Wednesday for a day of Stripers with the Mike Reinemann party from Cresskill, NJ. We fished down the beach off the Highlands and started off chunking, but only caught dogfish. We went up on the troll and had one striper around 20lbs and then had the rod go off and almost get spooled. I thought it was our shot at a 50lb striper, after a long battle the fish was boated and it turned out to be a 52 3/4 lb black drum that was weighed in at Julians. The fish was caught on a white bunker spoon in 40 feet of water. Other then that it was a slow day of fishing. Shark Fishing
Capt. Darren and mate Phil Mancini had the Rich Leihter and friends from Sussex County, NJ aboard for a day of sharking. After arriving in the area the water was a little dirty and cold so a short move to the west put us in decent water. It wasn't to long after that we had are first blue shark of the year on. We went on to catch 3 blue sharks, with one one for just a short while that we hooked right next to the boat. This blue shark was in the mid 200 lb class!. After that we had a mako in our slick but we could not get him to eat. He was too busy chasing bluefin tuna around. We did have a few blue fish in the slick and had our share of spinys. It was a beautiful day on the water and things are looking good for next weeks shark tournaments. Striper/Bluefish
Capt. Darren and mate Phil Mancini had Dave Baruzza and guys from PA out for a day of Striper and Blue fish. Started off in the morning catching all the blues the guys wanted and then made a short move at the change of the tide. Once the tide started to move the Bass bite was on. We had several large Bass all of them in the 20 lb class. All fish were caught on fresh bunker. Once the tide ran real hard the Bass turned off and the blue fish were back. We then switched over at the end of the day for a few short drifts for fluke. We had all shorts and no keepers. Great day on the water. Shark Tournaments
The Mary Lou and Crew took a few days off from charting to enjoy the boat for themselves and went back to Manasquan to fish the shark tournaments. On Friday we fished south east of the inlet and had only one Mako that was just a pup and set free unharmed to get bigger. We were back out on Saturday again in less then nice running conditions and had no fish all day until around 2:30pm when our short line went down and we had a fish on. Fought the fish for 20 minutes when it made a turn and wrapped us in the running gear. We spent another 10 minutes trying to free it but eventually the line broke. Another one we will never know about gets away. Blue Fish
Had 3 guy charter from Nebraska out for attempt at a half day blue fishing trip. Well to say it blunt the fishing was horriable. We fished 4 different spots and only had a few blues and got destroyed by the dog fish. Could not wait for the day to end. It was a shame because the guys on the charter were all great guys. Fluke
Had a special trip today with a film crew on board from the Discovery Channel. They are doing a show in the UK called Hooked on Fishing with Paul Allen as the host. Well they filmed a fluke trip aboard the Mary Lou Crew and we put a decent catch together for the viewers. We first tried to get a nice big striper for the show, but the fish were not to be found. So we switched over to the flatties and had a ton of shorts with a few nice keepers mixed in. Fluke
Had the boat out for another shot a the flatties with the Christian Swerd charter from Indiana. We fished a few of my favorite drops and had a constant bite all day. We ended the day with 15 nice keepers and to many shorts to count. Not bad considering it was only a half day trip.! Fluke
Had the George Gibson charter on board for a full day of fluke fishing. We had a nice day on the water and caught plenty of flatties. The only problem was there was to many shorts. We ended the day with 12 keepers. Very nice group to fish with and again the young girl onboard out fished everyone! Fluke
Had the boat out again today for another shot at some fluke. We started out way west up in the Reach channel but had no fish. We moved to a piece near by and had a few shorts and 2 keepers. Left and moved to the flats on the West side of the Ammo pier and had several shorts but put a few more keepers in the box. Then found a nice piece near the Reach and fished all alone and had several keeper and a ton of shorts and finshed the day with 10 keepers. Not bad with only 4 guys fishing. Fluke
Captain Darren and mate Phil Mancini had a half day fluke trip aboard with people from East Hanover, NJ. We fished all the usual spots around the bay plus a few others and had all the fluke we wanted however most of them were shorts again. It wasn't untill the last drift of the day just outside the hook when we found some bigger fish. It turned out to be a decent hald day trip. Nice people and the weather held out untill we arrived back at the dock. Fluke
Had the boat out for a half day fluke trip with only two anglers onboard. We made one move after a short stay at the Sandy Hook Channel and had over 50 fluke with 12 being keepers. One fished came in at 5 1/2 pounds while a few others were 20 inch fish. Great day on the water and the best part we never had to leave and go search for fish. Fluke
Had the boat out again for another fluke trip and fished along the beaches. We had every bit of 75 fish caught for the day, with 14 being keepers. We also added 5 nice seabass to the cooler to spice things up. We only fished until 1pm in beautiful weather and sea conditions. Fluke
Had the Mary Lou Crew out for another day of fluke fishing. We started off down South off of Seabright and had a steady pick of fish. Today the shorts seemed to dominate. We had 8 nice seabass to go along with the 4 keepers. Not bad fishing for a half day although again not enough big fish. Fluke
Capt. Darren and mate Phil Mancini had the George Gibson charter out for a fluke trip. With the wind blowing out of the North East we decided to fish the bay. It turned out to be a good choice as we fished the Chapel Hill channel and had action all day. We ended the day with 16 keepers up to 3 lbs and several fish in the 20 inch bracket. Bluefish
Capt. Darren and Mate Phil Mancini had the Johnny Lang group out for a night of bluefishing. We made one stop at the Mud Bouy and had fish in the slick within 10 minutes. The charter picked away at big bluefish all night until midnight. The decided they had there fill of fish and we called it a night. Bluefish
Capt. Darren and mate Mark Deur had a half day blue fish trip with John Ely and his two children. We started out at the Shrewbury Rocks and had a few blues. We made a move to the mud bouy and again only had a couple of fish, so we decided to make one more move out to 17 Fathoms and had nice clean water and marked some fish. We picked a few more fish, but on a whole the fishing was not good at all! Bluefish
Capt. Darren along with mate Phil Mancini had a full group for another half day blue fish trip. Again we fished all the spots for the blues and picked at each spot. The fish seem to be moving around and not staying in one place. I also noticed that they are really chasing the rain fish, which might be the reason the fish are not eating our baits. It was not another good day for the blues, although the ones we did catch were big. Fluke
Capt. Darren and mate Jeff Volker had the boys from Atlantic Grinding on board for a mixed day of fishing. We started off looking for blues and had a little trouble at first. A move out to 17 fathoms paid off as we found some fish on the surface feeding. We jigged enough fish to make them happy and we decided to switch over to the flatties. Starting at the Sandy Hook Channel looked good, but after the first drift with two keepers in the box, it was all Sea Robins. I decided to move out to the Ambrose and it paid off! We ended the day with a dozen nice fat keepers up to 3 pounds. Weakfish
Had the Jon Seagul charter on board for what was going to be a bluefish charter, but when we got out to the fishing grounds it was loaded up with weakfish. First mate Phil Mancini through the cast net before we left the dock and we had a 40 gallon live well full of peanute bunker. Well it was a half day trip that started at 1:30pm and by 5pm we had our limit and we went into release mode and also added some bluefish for good measure. Stripers
Capt. Darren and mate Phil Mancini had the Mary Lou Crew out for a shot at some fall stripers with the Savas Savadis charter on board. We made our first stop off the tip of Sand Hook and and had the fished stacked up pretty good. We managed to pull several nice fish out of there and had around a dozen shorts. But as soon as the tide slacked and turned to come back in the fishing died! We bounced around for the rest of the afternoon looking for a bite but could not get them going again. 2006 Season Ends
The Mary Lou Crew has called it a year. We pulled the boat out early this year to do some updates and a little repair work, and the fishing is that great either! We would like to thank everyone who fished with us this year for it was another great season. All our customers were a pleasure to have aboard and hope to see you again for 2007. We wish everyone a happy and healthy 2007 and enjoyable holidays. We are already excited for 2007 and will continue to work hard to be the best charter boat on the Jersey coast. I would also like to say thanks to Wayne Volker and Mark Deur for there help this season we couldn't have done it with out them. Thanks again!
