| 2005 Season
We are now getting ready for another fishing season that is coming just around the corner! We have plans to have the boat back in the water for April 6th and start targeting the early stripers! Give us a call early to reserve your date as the weekends book up quick! We are looking forward to another great season aboard the MARY LOU CREW! Stripers!!!!
Well the 2005 season is off to a good start! We had the John Lang party out from Landmark fire protection on Friday April 29th, and we ran the boat up to Sandy Hook for some decent stripe bass fishing. With six people onboard we had our limit of slot fish and also put one 34 inch fish in the box. We released several fish over 28 inches and also several shorts! All fish were caught on clams. It was a nice day on the water with great sea conditions. Looking forward to the next trip! Stripers!!!!
Had another successful striper trip with a 6 man charter from Cherry Hill area of New Jersey. We started out a little slow waiting for the tide to change over, but once it did we put some real nice fish in the cooler. It is just a real shame that we had to release around 15 to 20 fish in the 32 to 33 inch size bracket! We also had all the blue fish you wanted. Great sea conditons made for a nice ride! The group of guys were all great and a real pleasure to have on board the Mary Lou Crew. Stripers!!!!
Mary Lou Crew Sportfishing limited out on striped bass by 8 a.m. on a trip Saturday morning while trolling the ocean just south of Elberon, Capt. Darren said. A 42-inch bass and a 41-inch striper were released on the trip, and probably eight stripers in the 30-inch range were released. Afterward sea bass were caught at structure in the ocean on the trip, and sea bass fishing is “out of control,” Darren said. “They’re everywhere.” A charter earlier in the week also limited out on bass. Striper/Seabass
Had the guys from Eastern concrete out for a striper/seabass trip. The striper fishing was horriable. We found the bait but the fish had lock jaw. We switched to seabass and we were able to put a decent catch together despite the wind kicking up and it being hard to stay over the wrecks. The guys did go home with a nice bag of fresh fillets. Bluefish
Bluefishing was good on a trip in the ocean north of the Shrewsbury Rocks on Tuesday while chunking and chumming, Capt. Darren of Mary Lou Crew Sportfishing said. A 25-pound striped bass was also caught, and on Monday Darren did well on sea bass at structure in the ocean, and he also fished for stripers that day, but striper fishing was tough lately. Darren will compete in the South Jersey Shark Tournament this weekend. Sharks
Mary Lou Crew Sportfishing competed in the South Jersey Shark Tournament over the weekend, and shark fishing during the event was slow for everyone, Capt. Darren said. The boat caught nothing but bluefish and dog fish, and about 200 boats in the contest weighed in only a handful of sharks. Darren found water temperatures of 61.5 degrees at the 30-fathom line and 63 degrees at the 20-fathom line. Mary Lou Crew will fish for sharks, bluefish and sea bass in the near future. Sharks
Had a two man charter out shark fishing at the resor wreck. Well to say the least it was a bad day on the water. We tried everything and could not get a bite from a shark. We tried inshore for a thresher and then offshore for a mako and had no luck. We got covered up in dog fish and blue fish. Will be back out for the shark tournament this weekend. Sharks
was back out for the Brett T. Bailey shark tournament and had only blue sharks. We fished down south of the inlet to try to get away from the dog fish and it worked. We had several large blue sharks, but did not get a visit from the mako man. We will be back out for the next set of shark tournaments next weekend. Bluefish
Had the John Ely charter out for a day of blue fishing. We started up north at the rocks but the fish were not there. Went a little farther north and found the fish off of the highlands bridge. We went on to have a nice catch of blues and one 25 pound striper on a bunker chunk. The group had a nice day on the water and put a decent catch together. Bluefish/Fluke
Had the Mark Arone charter out with just two guys on the boat. We did some jigging for small blues. We had a decent catch and then swithced over to fluke. We made several drifts and had a lot of shorts but did manage a few keepers. Not a bad trip for only a half day out there. Sharks
Was back out for the Mako Mania and Jersey Coast shark tournaments. Had a godd day of shark fishing, we had 5 blue sharks and 1 mako that we took home for steaks. We also saw a 15 to 20 foot great white swim through the chum slick. Had blue fish around all day but not that bad! The mako took a whole live blue fish. We fished 60 miles south east of the inlet and had real nice water a seas. The ride back was a little long, but a great end to the shark tournaments! Stripers!!!!
Had the Tim Dettro charter out today with his 4 1/2 year old son. It was just a half day trip, but as it turned out that was all the time we needed. We limited out on big bass on the troll! We released a 38 inch fish! andhad several blue fish. We then switched over to some botton fishing for only about 1 hour before the wind kicked up. We had a few shorts and one real nice seabass. Fluke/Blues
Had Tim Dettro out again with his 5 year old son and had all the blue fish they wanted to catch. We drifted several areas up North and only had a few fish. The fluke fishing has not taken off yet, but the charter did have a nice day on the water. Stripers!!!!
Had the boat right back out after a morning 1/2 day charter. We went down south and used fresh bunker to chunk some real monster fish. We fished for three hours with just two fisherman and caught and released 20 bass! The best part about this was the smallest bass was 30 pounds. We released four bass 40 pounds or bigger!!! What a great trip! Striper/Bluefish
Had the Eric Rivera charter from the Bronx NY, with his son his father, brother and nephew. We went back in the morning to try and get back on the striper bite from the day before, but only managed two 30 pound stripers. We left there for the blues that they were real excited to catch. Ten minutes after droping the hook we had our first fish on and proceeded to catch 40 something bluefish. They had fun to say the least and we had just as munch fun helping and watching. Bluefin Tuna
Had the Mary Lou Crew out for some of the hot bluefin tuna bite. We fished inshore of the slough and had fish on within 10 minutes of putting the lines in the water. The fog was pretty thick so seeing birds working was tuff, we did however see fish on the service. The funny part was when we ran these fish over we never had a bite. We then saw a nice mako on the surface and when I turned to come back and try to catch him he had gone down and you guessed it bye bye to the tuna bite. We ended the day 10 for 13 on the bluefins and kept our two fish limit. Bluefin Tuna
was back out in the mudhole for some more great bluefin action. We started out at the lilian wreck and marked some fish but could not get them to eat. Trolled across to the east side of the hole and trolled behind some scallop boats. It was there that we went 9 for 9 on 33 to 35 inch bluefin. Great weather and sea conditions. Fluke/Seabass
Had the Rivera charter from the New York out for some bottom fishing. It was just a bad day on the water for everyone. We had no action on either species and had some sick guys on board. Maybe next time!! Fluke
Had Tim Dettro and family out for a great day of fluke fishing. We ran upto Ambrose Channel in Sandy Hook and ended the day with 15 keepers and all the shorts you could ask for. The largest fish was around 4.5 pounds and we had a real nice ride in both directions. Bluefish
Had another bluefish charter out to the farms. From the moment we arrived till the time we decided to pull the hook we caught fish. We had one guy on board who caught a nice fish on a fly rod with a fly! After about 10 fish we started to release. Great day and good bunch of guys! Tuna
Had the boat out to the Hudson Canyon for the first over night trip of the year. We had a bad trip on the troll and could not put a fish in the boat! Set up for the night and had only two longfin and then again nothing on the troll in the morning. It was nice to be out there and with great weather it made it easier to except the lack of fish. fluke
Had the mailman from Pompton Plains out for a day of fluke fishing. We started out South of the inlet and never had to leave that area. We ended the day with 10 nice fat fish and plenty of shorts. We had several fish in the 4 pound range and given the sea conditions it was a nice day out there. Fluke
Had John McEvoy and his buddies onboard for a half day fluke trip. We fished down South off of mantaloking and had some decent fluke. We ended the day with 15 keepers and one nice seabass. Great bunch of guys and a lot of fun. Fluke
Had Doug Torrey and his boys out for a day of fluke fishing. Again the Ocean does not seem to cooperate everytime he tries to get out with his family. It was nasty NE winds so we decided to try the river for a little while. Well it wasn't all that bad for we caught a lot of shorts and a couple of keepers, but this was fine for the kids! Maybe next time Doug! Bluefish
Had the guys from the sprinkler fiters union out for a night bluefish trip to the Mud buoy. The fishing was not crazy, but it was a steady pick of fish for the night. Had one 27 inch striper on a bunker chunk. We ended the night with around 50 blues. The guys looked like they had a good time when they stepped back on land. Beautiful night on the water! Sea Bass
Had the Chris Lyle crew out today for a shot at the sea bass. We started up North on a big wreck and managed to work this piece for several large fish. We made a move back down toward the inlet onto the sea girt reef and fished on another large wreck and again put another few nice fish in the box. We ended the day with 25-30 keepers and had several real big fish, but it was not the sea bass fishing we were hoping for. The fish just would not turn on for any extended period. Tuna
Well the Crew of the Mary Lou took a trip on there own and headed out to the Edge. We fished the Toms Canyon and set up just before dark in 500 feet of water and after only about half hour we had our first fish. We proceeded to limit out on yellowfin (20) and at 2:30am we called it a night and went to sleep for we were totally worn out from the fish. The fish ranged from 50lbs to 100lbs and towards the end of the night we could not even put the line in the water without being hooked up. One of the best trips for sure! The bad thing was we got real beat up on the ride in in a stiff 20 knot NWest wind, 7 hours to reach the dock! At least we were full with tuna. 2005 Season Ends
The crew of the Mary Lou would like to thank all of you who fished with us this 2005 season. We had another great year and thanks to all of our return customers along with the new ones you made it great! We started the season with some real great striper fishing in the spring and we went right into bluefishing, from there it was onto the shark run. We had a lot of fun fishing the shark tournaments and although we did not catch a money fish we had some real nice fish. After that it was into the summer for fluke, seabass and bluefish, and those species did not let us down for action. We also had some real great bluefin trips, and some great fall stripers along with the blackfish. Well it will be a couple of short cold months and we will be back ready for the spring stripers. Hope everyone has a happy and healthy New Year. Give us a call early to book that early season trip or talk about the plans for 2006.
